The memorial Birth of Christ near the town of Shipka | The town of Shipka is located in South Central Bulgaria (Stara Zagora District) immediately to the south under the Shipka Pass and Mt. Stoletov, 12 km on a road from the town of Kazanluk, to which it is connected by a regular bus transport.
The town was established 630 years ago in order to protect and support the pass. The hills were overgrown with dog-roses, that’s where the name of the town comes from (Shipka meaning wild rose).
One of the most important battles for the liberation of Bulgaria took place on the peak of Shipka.
A lots of the houses in town of Shipka are more than 130 years old.
There are great monuments near in the area of Shipka - Birth of Christ Memorial Church (in honour to the heroes of the Russian-Turkish War of Liberation of 1877-1878 - Russian soldiers and Bulgarian volunteers), The Memorial of Freedom, Buzludzha memorial, etc.
