The village of Mirkovo is located in South-West Bulgaria in the skirts of the Balkan range, in the Zlatitsa - Pirdop valley. It is center of Mirkovo Municipality (Sofia District). On the village surroundings there are traces from ancient times. In the area "Mound", 2 miles south of Mirkovo they have found traces of a neolith village, and in "Denin`s stone", "Ortova", "Mouth", "Yalamov` hill" and the "Hriskova stone" ruins of thracian villages have been found. In the "Aranudere" region lies a tomb from the Roman times, and near the village in the area called "Taushanitsa" is situated an early christian sanctuary, for which there are many myths and legends told. Near Mirkovo valuable monuments from the Middle Ages have been found - the church "St. George" from the XII - XIII century, as well as remains from a fortress. In Mirkovo village there are a few annual fairs. The most famous of them is the Kuker`s fair, which takes place every year on the first Sunday before Lent. The natural landmarks and the historical past provide the opportunity for developing mountain, trail, hunting, cultural and village tourism.
