The Ihtiman Municipality is situated in Southwestern Bulgaria. The relief is mountainous of 600 - 1,100 m altitude above sea level. The municipal center is located in the foot of the Ihtiman part of Sredna Gora Mountain and is at a distance of 52 km to the southeast of Sofia. The territory of Ihtiman Municipality is covered by a number of infrastructure sites of strategic importance to the whole country, namely: Trakia highway, the railway line Sofia - Plovdiv - Svilengrad - Istanbul, international road Е-80, pipeline of Lukoil, Bourgas, and natural gas main. The following third-class roads are of national importance: Ihtiman - Samokov and Vakarel - Panagyurishte. Two protected areas are located in the Municipality, which preserve beautiful natural species and a centuries-old beech tree forest. The first open-air golf course in Bulgaria owned by Air Sofia Company is in Ihtiman.
