The
village of Chernozem is situated in south-eastern
Bulgaria - municipality Elhovo (Yambol district). It is just 80 km away from the Black sea
coast. The nearest town to the village is the municipal town of Elhovo (10km).
The neighbouring settlements are the villages of Sitovo (Bolyarovo municipality) and Malomirovo. Chernozem
village is located at the Tundja river’s massifs. It was settled
about 300 years ago. Its lands are strewn with remains of old buildings. There
is a famous site near the village called "Ayazmoto" (used to be a monastery
there). The village of Chernozem falls into the range of two
climatic areas - the North - Tounja Area (transitional continental) and the
Sakar-Stranja Area (transitional Mediterranean, with soft winters, warm springs
and dry and hot summers). The north part of the region is characterized by a
temperately continental climate. These peculiarities reflect the lowland-hilly
character of the relief. The average January temperature is about 0°С, the
average July temperature is about 23°С, and the average annual temperature is
11-13°С.
