Situated in the Central part of Bulgaria, Stara Zagora is the 5th largest city in Bulgaria. It is one of the most economically developed cities in the country, with low unemployment rates and growing foreign investment. Stara Zagora was founded on the place of the former Roman settlement of Irinopolis. Excavations have revealed precious mosaics, tombs and ruins from those times. A part of a marvellous amphitheatre is still preserved and used for theatre performances. The streets of Stara Zagora today are still following the Roman street plan – they are perfectly strait. The rich cultural traditions and the spirit of the contemporary creators maintain an artistic atmosphere, which has always gone together with this town as old as its name. Stara Zagora has an exceptional climate, determined by its favourable location at the foot of the mountains which gently protect the city from extreme weather conditions, such as floods, winter storms, severe low temperatures, or very strong winds. There is plenty of sunshine throughout the year with almost cloudless sky, allowing you to see the stars at night. The city’s economy is rapidly developing. Stara Zagora has one of the highest living standards in Bulgaria. Businesses and foreign investment are growing. This highly contributes to the stable economy in the country.
