The town of Dospat is located in South-Central Bulgaria, in the western Rhodope Mountains - Smolyan Province (distance of 82 km west of the town of Smolyan). The town is municipal center of Dospat Municipality. It is a small and friendly city in the middle of a mountain surrounded by a breathtaking views of pure nature. Near to the town of Dospat is situated Dospat dam. Located 1200 meters above the sea level it is the highest dam in Bulgaria and with its 22 km. of water area, the second one in size. The nature around the dam is appreciated as visually appealing with old pine forests surrounding the lake and opposite it the steep slopes of the Rhodope mountains are picturesquely studded with houses and hotels. The dam is rich in fish. It is stocked with perch, grey mullet, carp, trout, etc. Several types of fishing are practiced: fishing with lures, fly-fishing and others. In the surrounding areas are situated the dams of Vacha, Sarnitsa, Beglika, Batak and Shiroka Polyana dam. The area offers great opportunities for recreation and tourism.
