The legends say that the village was founded three centuries ago of settlers from the village of Gela. Initially they settled in the countryside of Brezovo, over the village of Beden. Nevertheless they were not welcomed by the people of Beden and moved to their present lands where the Yourouks gathered in summer. Breze remained within the Ottoman Empire after the Liberation in 1878. Until 1912 the borderline between Bulgaria and the Empire in the Rhodope mountain was passing between Breze and Shiroka Luka.
