The Devin municipality covers an area of 574-sq. km. in the south-east part of the Rhodopes Mountain. The Municipality mainly comprises the deep valley of the Vucha River and it is 17,83 % of the territory of Smolyan district.Municipality of Devin borders the municplaities of Smolyan and Chepelare on the east; Borino and Batak on the west; Bratsigovo, Krichim and Rhodopi on the north; the Republic of Greece on the south. The relief is typically mountainous, and it has the special features of this part of the Rhodopes (steep, and even precipitous/inaccessible slopes, deep glens, or slant easily passed ridges). The altitude ranges from 420 m (below the `Vucha` dam) to 2091 m (the Golyam Persenk peak). The varied rock composition has resulted into forming a number of natural phenomena like deep gorges, caves, rock formations, etc. According to the European climate classification, Devin region belongs to the mountainous cliamte region ІІ-7 of the continental climate zone, which is described as lower temperatures in summer and heavy rainfalls all the year round.
