Banite municipality covers some middle part of the Central Rhododpes. Its territory is 299 sq.km. with altitude from 450 to 2001 m. In terms of area, it is the third largest municipality in the Smolyan district. It borders on the municipalities of Smolyan, Laki, Assenovgrad, Ardino, Madan, and Chernoochene. The municipality comprises the municipal center of Banite, 8 communities - Davidkovo, Oryahovets, Galabovo, Zagrazhden, Starnitsa, Vishnevo, Dryanka, Malka Arda, and 11 villages - Valchan dol, Glogino, Krastatitsa, Bosilkovo, Slivka, Treve, Debelyanovo, Dve topoli, Riben dol, and Planinsko. Climate is characterized by mild cool summer and moderately cold and sunny winter. The average long-year balance of the humidity is positive. There are a great many sunny days without rain in a year. Fog is not typical. This is very important both for tourism and agriculture. The thermal spring in Banite has a capacity of 18 l/s, while the temperature is 43 degrees centigrade. This predetermines the municpality development as a resort center. The mineral water can be used for balneological, domestic, and everyday needs.
