Sopot Municipality is one of the newly established (in 2003) municipalities in Plovdiv District. It is situated in the southern foot of the Balkan Range, at an altitude about 510 m above sea level. The municipality is traversed by main road Е1-6, which connects the capital city of Sofia to Bourgas; Municipal center town of Sopot is crossed also by the sub-Balkan Range railway line. At a distance of 2.5 km of Sopot town is the village of Anevo, which is the other populated place in the Sopot municipality. The relief and climate are influenced by the specific characteristics of the Stryama River valley, the Stara Reka River and the Byala River, as well as by the mounts of Vezhen (2,198 m) and Botev (2,376 m) - the highest peak in the Balkan Range. To the south the valley is enclosed by the slanting slopes of Sredna Gora Mountain, which nearby the town of Banya slopes down to the valley and has an outlet on the Stryama River towards the Plovdiv field.
