Municipality Kuklen The Kuklen municipality (Plovdiv district) is located in South - Central Bulgaria. The municipal center is town of Kuklen - one of the youngest towns in Bulgaria (proclaimed 26 May 2006). It is at a distance of 14 km from the District Center Plovdiv city. The town is located 3 km to the southeast of road II 86 - Plovdiv - Assenovgrad - Smolyan, and through the Roudozem border control point, has connection to Xanti city and Porto Lagos port on the Aegean Sea (140 km) in the Greece.Landmarks, natural sights and monuments of culture in municipality of Kouklen: Rodopi Lessopark occupies an area of 23,000,000 sq. m on the afforested land of the Municipality; its altitude above sea level varies from 700 to 1700 m. The Lessopark is comprised of four resort and tourism units, namely: - Zdravets lodge at 1,250 m above sea level; - Koprivkite holiday resort at 1,350 m; - Stoudenets holiday resort at 1,450 m - Byala Cherkva holiday resort at approximately 1,700 m. Conditions and prerequisites for building a prime-class skiing center exist in Byala Cherkva holiday resort. This environment is favorable for the construction of 7 new ski-slopes of over 10 km total length and meeting the international standards. 4 km away from Kouklen town at 450 m above sea level amidst magnificent nature is the Saint Damyan Monastery. It was built in 11 c. simultaneously with the Bachkovski monastery. Immediately next to the Monastery is the Ayazmoto - a spring, the water from which has healed thousands of mentally ill patients. At 4 km to the southeast of Kouklen town on the land of Rouen village at 450 - 500 m above sea level is the Rouensko Lake. It is situated in the foot of a hill covered with pine-trees wood and amidst picturesque surroundings. Sports and amateur fishing are an option. Temples of different religions in the municipal center reflect the diverse ethnic composition of the population - eastern orthodox, western orthodox (Uniat) and Muslim.
