The village of Kurnare is located in South-Central Bulgaria. It is part of Karlovo Municipality, Plovdiv District. It is situated on both sides of the sub-Balkan highway, just 17 km northwest of the town of Karlovo and 50 km away from the town of Troyan. There is a small railroad station south of the village.
The village of Karnare is the basic starting point for nature reserve "Steneto" and mountain hut Dermenka. Starting for the forests of Central Balkan National Park you should by all means stop by the Dyado Petrovoto hanche Inn, which is located just 2 km away from the village, by the road for the town of Troyan. Here you can taste from the traditional homemade specialties of the landlady, see how the home made plum brandy is prepared in the distillery of the inn and even ride a donkey. The greatest attraction yet are the Australian ostriches. The inn keepers know perfectly well all of the secrets of the Balkan and can be of help in the mountain.
