Septemvri municipality is located in South-Central
Bulgaria in the westernmost part of the Upper Thracian valley (Pazardjik District). The Municipality consists of 2
cities (center town of Septemvri
and town of Vetren) and 13
villages. It is at a distance
of 100 km to the east of Sofia, 20
km from Pazardzhik and 50 km
from Plovdiv. The
Septemvri Municipality is crossed by the international highway
Trakia, the international railway line connecting Central Europe to Asia. Septemvri railway station is the
initial point of the narrow railway track connecting the Thracian plane to the
Rhodopes, Pirin and Rila mountains. Over half of the territory
of Septemvri munucipality is agricultural land - approximately
207,474,000 sq. m, forests are over 96,989,000 sq. m. The Maritsa River and its
right tributary the Chepinska River flow through the Municipality. Several
micro-dam lakes have been constructed: Vetren, Karabounar, Slavovitsa and Semchinovo. An invaluable wealth
of the Municipality is the thermal mineral water springs in the vicinity of Varvara village and Vetren Dol village (water
temperature 72°С). Inert river materials - sand and gravel - are quarried in the
villages of Boshoulya, Lozen and Vetren Dol.
