The town of Panagurishte is located in Pazardzhik district (South-Central Bulgaria). It lies along the Luda Yana River, in the kettle of Panagurishte, flanked by the proper Sredna Gora Mountains, 42 km to the north of the town of Pazardjik. The town is a railway terminal of the Plovdiv - Panagurishte railroad. There are mineral springs in Panagurishte and the villages of Banya and Poibrene. Located close to the town is the mountain health resort named Colonies of Panagurishte. The renowned gold treasure of Panagurishte was found 2 km to the south of the town dating back to the Hellenic epoch (it includes nine gold vessels, richly ornate, 6 kg and 164g in weight). Dozens of grave mounds have remained from the Tracian tribes that inhabited these lands. The present-day town of Panagurishte was founded at the end of the 15th century.
