 The town of Krumovgrad (Kardjali District) is located in South-Central Bulgaria. It is center of Krumovgrad Municipality. It is situated in the very south of Bulgaria, in the Eastern Rhodopes on the banks of the river Krumovitsa. It is at distance 310km from the Bulgarian capital Sofia, 310km from city of Burgas and 48 km from the district center town of Kardjali. The nearest border point is Kaptan Andreevo 130km away (new border point at pass Makaza that is 40km away from Krumovgrad is still under construction (2007))
The majority of its population consists of ethnic Turks. The town is named after the successful medieval Bulgarian ruler Krum (the name means "city of Krum" in Bulgarian). The region provide good conditions for tourism industry development because the combination of multitude of historical sights and nature.
