The village of Balkan (Haskovo district) is located in South-Central Bulgaria and is included in municipality Stambolovo. It lies between the towns Haskovo and Kardjali. Just about 20 km away is located the holy town of Perperikon.
Near by the village is situated a dam lake which is suitable for fishing. The fishing fans could enjoy fishing White Amur and Bighead Carp, stocked there. The biggest Rhodopes river Arda flows about 30 km away.
The main livelihood for the local people is the tobacco growing.
The remarkable nature and the tranquillity of the dam lake offer the perfect conditions for a rural holiday. The beautiful houses, scattered around the dam lake and hospitality of the local people, complete the calm atmosphere of the village of Balkan.
