It is center of Borovan municipality.The village is situated 31.74 km. north of the regional center town of Vratsa. Adjacent to the village Borovan are Malorad, Devene and Ohoden. There are dams around the village - Korea, Valchov lag and Tihov lag that are suitable for fishing. History: The name of the village of Borovan dates from the Middle Ages. In a document from 1614 / Timarski Register / were found names of 325 inhabitants of Borovan, including five priests - probably at this time there was a small school and church to prepare priests and teachers. In 1820 in Borovan was open one of the first secular schools in Vratsa region. In 1834 a was built a wooden church called Sv.Paraskeva "and in 1843, a stone one. The Temple, St Nicholas was built in 1872 and a century later was declared a cultural monument. Borovan Village is exempt from Ottoman rule in the October 25 , 1877 by Hussar Regiment of Leybgvardeyskiya under the command of Colonel Baron Mayendorf. After the liberation Borovan becoming one of the largest villages in the Vratza region. Sightseeing: There are Memorial of the fallen for the Liberation of Bulgaria. Today`s village Borovan lying on the remains of a large Thracian-Roman settlement, as evidenced by the open graves / I-IV century / pottery and Roman coins found around. At the height of the mound of Borovan there are preserved parts of walls and towers of a late Roman fortress. Also there were found remains of a medieval Bulgarian settlement. At 18 May, 1876 the village was passed by the revolutionary Hristo Botev and his detachment in his way to from Kozloduy coast to the Vratsa Balkan. This route was later included as part of the memorial complex "Road of Botev" and is passed every year by hundreds of Botevs pilgrims.
