Sightseeing: The pride of Rakovitsa is Rakovitsa Monastery of the Holy Trinity, which has been declared a cultural monument. It is situated in the foots of peak of Chernoglav (858 m) in the West Fore-Balkan mountain, 4 km northwest of village of Rakovitsa, almost on the border with Serbia. It was founded in 10-11 century. After the fall of Bulgaria under Ottoman rule it was declined. The monastery was restored in the 17th century from St. Pimen Sofiyski. In the late 18 th century was destroyed by fire. Nowadays it is restored and active. In 1848 the monastery was opened the first secular school in northwestern Bulgaria. Rakovitsa monastery is the center of national liberation struggles - it is the place where was organized Vidin Uprising (1848-1850) and the uprising from 1856. After the Liberation, in memory of those who died in the uprisings, the new church was built with adjoined to the west side high belfry.
