Village of Rabisha

Rabisha is one of the small villages in the municipality Belogradchik, Vidin area. It used to be a significant vine-growing region in the years of the communist regime. After the changes in 1989, the Agricultural Cooperative in the village was closed and the land was returned to the owners. With no tools and funds to cultivate it, villagers at first granted it on lease, but gradually the overall agricultural sector in the country declined and these efforts ceased altogether. However, the municipality has recently won a grant for reviving the vineyards, which will be carried out in parthenrship with the only wine producing company left - a private company with small number of employees. Today, most of the young people from Rabisha have moved to the bigger towns. The only jobs currently available are in the two or three food shops, a small hotel and a restaurant, and the orphanage.
