Montana is the center of an administartive region Montana. It is situated in north-western Bulgaria (113 km from Sofia) along the Ogosta river. It was founded in Roman times as a fortless. In 1891 is became a town. It has been bearing the name of Montana since 1991. The town is important administrative and industrial center. Bus and railway transport are the two types of transport connecting the town with the rest of the country. There are regular bus lines to Sofia, Lom, Vidin, Belogradchik, Pleven, Vratsa and to the smaller settlements. Montana is transitional railway station on the line Boichinovtsi –Berkovitsa. Near to the town is situated The Montana Dam which has been turned into a wonderful place for rest, sport, water tourism and fishing.
