The town of Lom (ancient Almus) lies on the right bank of Danube River, north of Montana town (North-West Bulgaria). The town is the second largest and most significant Bulgarian port on the Danube (after Ruse) and is a railway terminus. It is located 162 km north from the capital Sofia. The harbour of the town sprang up 170 years ago. It is located on a strategic place where lots of trade roads cross themselves. The port’s location and the convenient connections by land to the south of Danube influence favorably the development of Lom. The town transformed into an important transport center in the northern Bulgaria.
