The village of Kovachitsa (Montana district) is located in North-West Bulgaria and is included in municipality Lom.It is nestled in the foothills of a hill, near the Danube River, at 10 kilometers east of the town of Lom on the road to the town of Kozloduy. Near the village there is a dam, which is suitable for fishing and is used for irrigation of agricultural lands.
History of Kovachitsa dates from the end of Chiprovtsi Uprising (erupted after the capture of Belgrade in Austria on September 6, 1688). After the defeat of the rebels, survivors run off in all parts of Bulgaria and part of them settled along the coast of the Danube river near Lom.
