 The village of Bahovitsa is located in Lovech district (North-Western Bulgaria), and is one of the villages in municipality Lovech. It is situated about 6 km north of the regional center - the town of Lovech.
According to legend, the village was founded during the Roman Empire and is named after the God of wine and merriment - Bacchus. According to another version the name comes from the times of the Ottoman rule, when it was named "Baaovas″" (in Turkish language means a vine field).
An interesting fact related to the village, is that on 14 February 1958 in the Bahovski vineyards, Todor Zhivkov and Anton Yugov (then the Prime Minister of the Bulgaria) announced the Decree of the Presidium of the National Assembly, according which the feast of St. Trifon Zarezan becomes an official professional holiday of viticulturists and winemakers in Bulgaria.
