The North-Eastern planing region includes two national parks - Golden Sands (Zlatni piasaci) and Shumansko plato with total area of 5250,6 hectares. There are 3 preserves as ecosystems with total area of 1 592,2 hectares - Kamchia, Kaliakra and Bukaka; 8 maintained preserves with threatened with extinction species - Baltata, Patleina, Dervisha, Valchi prohod, Momin grad, Varbov dol, Kirov dol and Kalfata.
