The town of Gorna Oryahovitsa (160 meters above sea level) is located in North-Central Bulgaria, Veliko Turnovo District. It is situated at the northern foothill of the Tarnovo Elevations, some 7 km northeast of Veliko Tarnovo, 3 km northwest of Liaskovets and 247 km northeast of Sofia. The town has rich history - the first information about the settlement dates back to the second half of the fifth millennium BC. Gorna Oriahovitsa was proclaimed as town in 1870 . Nowdays the town is the biggest railway center of Northern Bulgaria. The two main railroad lines Sofia – Gorna Oriahovitsa – Varna and Rousse – Gorna Oriahovitsa – Stara Zagora – Podkova cross here.
