Village of Cherven is a small village situated on 35 kilometers from Ruse.This village is stretched direct on both sides to the river Lom. The soft climate,fertile ground and comfortable places for settlement in the valley ,before a long time are attracted the human attention. That`s be due to the big heapings near the village and religious centers from different ages.In this teritory had been landed a big rocky reef in one of the river curves VI century dates the big Byzantine stronghold. The settlement growth by the time of the secondary bulgarian Kingdom (12-14 century),till the village transformed to the big town-Cherven,one of the leading military, economic and cultural centres in medieval Bulgaria. Out of the preserved ruins most interesting are the parts of the fortified walls, the defensive tower (used as a model for the restoration of the Baldwin Tower on Tsarevets Hill in Veliko Turnovo), the two gates, the castle, the foundations of a great number of churches, the foundations of the boyar palaces, the two unique in their kind water pumping facilities with vaulted staircases, etc.
