The town of Cherven bryag is located in North - Central Bulgaria (Pleven district) and is center of municipality Cherven bryag. It is situated on the right shore of the Zlatna Panega. Cherven Bryag is a medieval settlement mentioned in 1431 in Ottoman registers as Dobrolak. Under its present name, meaning "red shore" and referring to the reddish clay in the vicinity of the river, Cherven Bryag was first recorded in the 16h century as part of the Ottoman region of Nikopol. The settlement was proclaimed for town on 26 June 1929.
